Change and Continuity

Today we will celebrate Purim. Join us for the fun, join us for the food, but do join us as we celebrate one of the most playful “they tried to kill us, they couldn’t, let’s eat” holidays.

Following the celebration of Purim, the Rabbi will begin her four-month sabbatical. A time for her to rest and relax; spend time with family, friends and colleagues; study, travel and so much more. We wish her the best as she takes this time to recharge her batteries and look forward to her return in August.

While she is away all regular programming will continue. Various professional colleagues will join us for some of our regular Shabbat services as well as special holiday services.

For instance, do join us for the Solel Community 2nd Seder which will be led by Rabbi Bill Tepper on Thursday, April 2. All of the details are listed in the Shammas and on our website, with registration and payment (preferably via e-ransfer to books@solel.ca), required by March 24.

Join us for the regular Shabbat services when our talented in-house lay leaders will take over the pulpit with our usual blend of prayers, both spoken and sung. Each individual service leader will bring their own personal style, tunes and d’var Torah, giving us new thoughts and ideas to consider.

We will also share some family services and communal potluck lunches following Saturday morning services. Yum!

Zach Harper, currently completing his first year of Rabbinic studies, will be back in the spring and lead several services for us. We look forward to hearing about his adventures in Israel.

Music will be handled in a variety of ways. Albert Amar will share his musical gifts at several services, as will our own Twisted Camels. As well, the Rabbi and Joel Brown worked together to update an amazing program known as ‘Cantor in a Box’, providing supplementary music when other musicians aren’t available.

Adult study programs will become a group led discussion on Sunday mornings (both in person and on-line), as we continue to review various Reform Responsa. Lunch and Learn programs and Book Reviews will continue under Arliene’s direction.

All in all, lots is happening – both the new and the old – so do join us for one or more of these amazing programs that we will continue to hold over these next several months.

Ruth
