What’s New & Upcoming – And One Important Thank-You

by Ruth Ostrower, July 30, 2025

The most obvious item, in the what’s new department, is that we have completed the repairs to “fingers crossed” irradicate the chance of any further in-house floods. With the repairs completed, we then moved on to the rejuvenation of the space with new carpeting and lighting installed along with enhanced accessibility to our bimah via a wider ramp. If you’ve been reading the Shammas throughout the summer, you’ve seen lots of pictures detailing the repairs and upgrades. However, there is nothing like seeing something in person, in order to truly see the effect of all of these changes.

We hope you’ll be joining us in the not-too-distant future. We return to both Erev Shabbat and Shabbat morning services on the weekend of August 8 and 9, and the High Holidays are just around the corner. Lots of opportunities to come and see for yourself just how warm and welcoming the Sanctuary has become.

Speaking of High Holidays, this also means that you will have received your package detailing your annual financial commitment requirements. If you have any questions, do reach out to us. Otherwise, we would appreciate it if you could complete the form (we require a written commitment for our records) and make your arrangements with the office to send in your payment(s).

As well, this means it is the time of year when we are looking for volunteers to help us ensure that the High Holiday services run smoothly. If you are willing to usher for one or more services, please contact Leo Van Thyn. If you are interested in learning how to become a Shofar blower, please contact Mark Botnick. (You can reach both through the Solel office.)

I would also like to use this space to say a special thank you and yasher koach to the many individuals who led our Shabbat services while the Rabbi was away on vacation in July. Our lay leaders gave us different tunes, different perspectives and always a beautiful service to help us shed the cares of the week and move into the Sabbath.

Best wishes to everyone for a continued enjoyable summer and I look forward to seeing you in the not-too-distant future, either in person or through the lens of our on-line camera.
