Halloween Is No Threat to Our Judaism
Over the years, both Hebrew school and adult education classes have been cancelled because of Halloween. Sometimes that cancellation has been applauded and sometimes it has been criticized. This year, on Thursday, October 31, I cancelled one of my adult classes because I realized that many of the adult students in the class would be busy opening the door for neighbourhood children or would be escorting their own children for Halloween. And whenever I’ve canceled, I’ve always felt a bit of guilt, and then one of my colleagues sent me the following article, which made me realize that I don’t really have to feel guilty at all, and I don’t have to be threatened, and Judaism is not going to be destroyed because we participate in this evening that kids look so forward to.
Read the article and let me know what you think.
